Latin urban artists bring classic reggae songs to life


Earlier this week, Billboard has compiled a list of Latin urban artists who have brought an old-school reggaeton hit to life in their recent songs. But that’s not the only new trend taking hold of the genre in 2019.

Just as artists like Anuel AA bring back the timeless perreo and reggaeton tracks in their jams, they also bring classic reggae to life.

In collaboration with Ozuna, Karol G, Daddy Yankee and J Balvin, Anuel AA pays homage to Shaggy’s hit “It Wasn’t Me” in “China”, giving it a captivating touch of Latin and EDM.


“Go Karo”, extract from the last album of Karol G ocean, is a song that gives an urban Latin touch to the song “Go Pato” by English reggae singer Pato Banton.


Daddy Yankee has teamed up with Canadian reggae singer Snow to bring back his’ 90s hit “Informer.” Much like the Yankees, the song returned in the form of a Spanish boom called “Con Calma”.


Pitbull has teamed up with Natti Natasha and Daddy Yankee for their song “No Lo Trates”, a song that pays homage to the classic “Rica y Apretadita” by Panamanian reggae singer plena El General.
