Rihanna drags Diplo and compares his songs to airport reggae music

Diplo’s electronic music trio Major Lazer has a stacked lineup of A-List artist collaborations, from Justin Bieber to Ariana Grande and Travis Scott. But there’s one artist the mega-DJ/producer can’t quite shut down. In a new interview with QGDiplo admits Rihanna is “the one artist we can never have”, recounting a long history of Bad Gal from Barbados turning down collaborations.

He first played Rihanna’s “Lean On,” which was eventually released in 2015 with MØ, but she retaliated by telling Diplo, “I don’t do house music.” The DJ remembers being embarrassed – “I hit that one so hard” – but that wasn’t enough to put him off completely. During another studio session with Future, The Weeknd and Metro Boomin, Diplo hoped he’d be able to lure Rihanna in, but instead she delivered the most delicious of sweets.

“I was so high on contact,” Diplo explained. “Future played him about 700 songs. It was four in the morning. Finally, I was like, Yo, G, I’m leaving unless you let me play him a song. So I played him a song. And she was like, it sounds like a reggae song in an airport. [laughs] I was like, I’m going to go kill myself.”

And Rihanna has since clamored for the raunchy reviews, proudly posting a screenshot of Papers writing on the subject:
